What’s happening!

I just found out that I have also been short listed to 100 artists for the 100 Kellogg Art Comp this year. (2023) I am looking forward to seeing all the artwork displayed there this year along with one of my wall sculptures!

In 2023 I was included in the List of Artists for the yearly “UpwithArt” at Museum London. Here is the link to find out more and what artwork I have submitted to help raise funds for homelessness.

My Solo Exhibition called “Found” 2023 at the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre in St. Thomas, ON. was wonderful this past year.

It was very exciting to exhibit at Westland Gallery’s group exhibit called “Paper and Textiles” London, Ontario, Canada, this past September 2022.

Spotlight on Kim Wilkie

Kim’s Art

Kim’s use of materials reflects her familial and educational background while living in London, Ontario. She always had an interest in making and its functionality through crafts and sewing, and when she entered Western University she applied these to the fine arts such as drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture. In Kim’s graduating year at Western, she laid claim to a combined material form of painting and fibre/textile; fine art and craft. Kim has continued to use these materials as an impetus for exploration while expanding her fine art field to include en plein air painting with earthen materials, as well as studio painting with drawing on canvas or board through different mediums and incising into the paint on board or canvas. It is her intuitive process and her chosen materials that create unique art seen on this website. In all these modalities she intuitively organizes her visceral expressions in relation to her social environment along with an effort of responsibility to it.

The video is around 17 minutes. It is about materials found at thrift stores, left over materials from my studio and found images in my mixed media paintings.

Biography

Kim was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada.  She received an Honors Fine Arts Studio Degree with Distinction in 2006 from Western University. It was with great honour that Kim was chosen in her graduating year for the “Embroiderer’s Guild Award.” The President of the Embroiderer’s Guild said, they chose her because of the consistent use of sewing and embroidery in her art throughout her degree. She took instruction from Kim Moodie, Jennie White, Helmut Becker, Patrick Mahon, Colette Urban, Ken Singer and Chris Down. Kim has exhibited her art in juried and non juried group shows in Ontario since 1994. She has volunteered at Museum London in different capacities for several years in the past ; and was a board member of Museum London with a seat for CARFAC for two years. Kim also volunteered at other art galleries like The Arts Project, and the artist run Forest City Gallery. In 2015 Kim received a post graduate certificate in Expressive Arts from Fleming College, at the Haliburton Campus. After running and relocating her studio/ gallery from London to Benmiller, Ontario, Kim decided to rename her gallery the Garage Gallery. This past year she closed the gallery (2022) to concentrate on her artwork and family.

I was accepted to and had the pleasure of spending a month at Spark Box Studio in Prince Edward County from May 26 to June 22, 2013.  It became a pivotal year for spurring me to explore my chosen materials (Thread/String & Paint). Chrissy and Kyle were very accommodating in talking about both the art process and the business of Art.  I met other artists who added to this wonderful experience.

I have been accepted by the Mauser Harmony with Nature Foundation for a residency for 2022 at the Mauser EcoHouse Artist Residency in Costa Rica. It is located near the town of Parrita on the Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica.

Teaching Experience

In my fourth years studies at Western University I was a teacher's assistant for a full year with, at that time,  Associate Professor David Poolman. I assisted and helped instruct a first year visual arts class (at the time called 020 Visual Arts)
